I had an interesting conversation with some of my girlfriends about the difference between travel and vacation. Travel is hard. A lot of it is unpleasant and you are constantly uncomfortable. You do it for personal growth and perhaps on some level spiritual fulfilment. It is a privilege to be able to travel.
Vacation on the other hand is something different. You go on vacation to be comfortable. To enjoy and relax and laze in the sand and on the beach. Vacation and travel are not the same.
I have realized that I need to reframe the difference between to the two. And that perhaps the best place to vacation is at home. It’s nice to just have time where you have no plans, no chores and long stretches of hours not doing much. This is especially the case when your mom takes care of everything an all you have to do is eat.
This week, I came as close to a “vacation” as I could in a long time because after finishing my legal project I have literally been not doing anything aside from eating and watching Ted Lasso. BTW - AMAZING show. Just what my soul needs right now.
It’s now the weekend and I am feeling great. In fact, I am feeling so great about being on vacation that I feel lazy about all the shit I have to do when I get back from vacation. Perhaps I need to bake in more “vacation” into my daily schedule so that I have more time to just be a potato. Hopefully this will also help my productivity during my work days.
For now it’s back to watching some more Ted Lasso. And I feel GREAT about it! As my wonderful former personal coach/wise guru would say, “we don’t always have to struggle our way to success!”
